“A sacred task”
Conan recovers from his fight with the Son of the Tooth and meets some locals in Khoraja. The woman he had helped escape Shuma-Gorath’s sorcery now aided the Cimmerian as he recovered. It was a long process, but the people around him were very grateful.
There were numerous job offers locally, but Conan seriously declined. The road lured him, as did thoughts of adventure. His fate was not that of a local policeman or a Khoraja mercenary. One day, when a finely dressed priestess appeared at the inn, Conan accepted her request for an armed escort. It would be days later before he realized what he had gotten himself into. This was no ordinary woman. Your whole being is tied to the past.
Will Conan and the Priestess reach the other side of the Great Eastern Desert? What haunts the cursed plains of Mardeh? How much of the reward will Emida receive for bringing Conan back to life? Collect the series to find out!
“The Ghosts of Robert E. Howard”
Jeffrey Shanks gives us another exclusive look into the ghost world of Robert E. Howard. From the Hyborian period to the American Civil War, Howard maintained a predominantly traditional yet raw power in his supernatural stories. For me, this style is my favorite in this genre. Ghosts are all around us. Through the ages.
review
This was a wonderful one-shot story that reminded me so much of Bêlit’s adventures in “Becoming A Goddess” (from the current Savage Sword of Conan #14). Never follow a strange woman into an abandoned temple. Unexpected things always happen to those who enter afterward. Luck favors Conan. For this reason, I give this issue three out of five stars. Thank you very much, Jim Zub!
